Important Information:-

• If you are new to driving, the DVSA usually recommend anywhere between 30-60 hours of practice on average before attempting a driving test.

• If you are an experienced driver (for example have driven in a different Country) we recommend a minimum of between 10 to 20  hours to be able to assess you in each subject area fully & give you the best advice in which areas you need more work on.

• Package deals can be taken out more than once (i.e., you purchase a 10 hour package and then if you/your instructor feels further practice is required, a further package deal can be purchased).

Why ADIs Cannot Provide Their Car Solely for Driving Test Experience

As Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs), we often receive requests from individuals seeking to use our cars for their driving tests without undergoing lessons with us. While we understand the appeal of this option, it’s important to highlight why this is not something we can accommodate. Below are the key reasons:

1. Insurance Limitations

Driving school vehicles are insured for specific purposes, including lessons and tests conducted by fully prepared students. Allowing someone unfamiliar with our car or teaching methods to use the vehicle for a test may void the insurance policy, leaving both the instructor and the driver exposed to significant risks.

2. Legal and Safety Responsibilities

As ADIs, we are legally responsible for ensuring that anyone driving our car is competent and test-ready. If a driver is unfamiliar with the vehicle or lacks adequate preparation, they may pose a safety risk to themselves, the examiner, and others on the road. This goes against our professional responsibility to prioritise road safety.

3. Vehicle Familiarity

Modern driving school cars often come equipped with dual controls and unique features. A driver unfamiliar with these controls may struggle during the test. For example:

- Adjusting to the control's sensitivity.

- Understanding the layout of controls (wipers, indicators, etc.).

- Proper use of controls in emergencies.

Test-day nerves can amplify these challenges, further increasing the likelihood of mistakes.

4. Test Readiness

As ADIs, we are trained to assess whether a student is genuinely ready for the practical test. We base this judgment on hours of instruction and familiarity with their driving abilities. Allowing someone to use our car without prior lessons undermines this process and could lead to an avoidable test failure.

5. Professional Standards

Our role as ADIs goes beyond simply providing a car for tests. We are committed to:

- Ensuring drivers are fully prepared, confident, and capable of passing the test.

- Upholding the professional reputation of our driving school.

- Supporting the DVSA’s goal of maintaining high driving standards across the UK.

Providing a car for the test without verifying readiness compromises these values.

6. Potential Impact on Other Students

Allowing unprepared individuals to use our cars for tests can disrupt our schedules and impact regular students who rely on us for consistent instruction and access to the vehicle.

Conclusion

While we sympathise with those seeking test-day support, providing a car for the test without prior lessons goes against professional, legal, and safety obligations. Our ultimate goal is to help learners become safe, confident drivers—not just to pass a test but to drive responsibly for life.

If you’re preparing for your driving test and need professional guidance, we encourage you to book lessons with us. Together, we’ll ensure you’re fully equipped for test day and beyond.

This explanation should clarify the policy for your website visitors while reinforcing your professionalism and commitment to safety. Let me know if you’d like further adjustments! All we want is for you to be able to drive independently and safely around our ffriends and families, not to mention, your own. Remember, you are not a learner driver if you are going to the test, you are there to prove that you can do everything by yourself, without any help, not just to "give it a go".
